Antique Style Inspired by a Sommelier

Sommelier Bill Summerville’s home is filled with antique treasures, many of them from his years lived in Italy. He has mastered using his gems in a stylish way.

There are plenty of ways to incorporate vintage items into your decor. Doing it with style and making the pieces feel timeless, instead of just old, that’s a skill!

Here are a few ideas inspired by Bill that will add an elegant layer to anyones home. The trick here is repurposing items in clever and modern ways.

Check Etsy or eBay for quick inexpensive finds, or better yet, spend a Saturday wandering shops in South Minneapolis (my favorite is the Loft) or Stillwater.

Vintage find #1 Brass bowls used as a wine or champagne ice bath. You can use it to hold several bottles (dinner party excellence) or just one feels extra elegant in an oversized container.

Tip: seek out Russian designs for amazing claw footed gems.

Vintage find # 2 Demitasse cups used to serve rich soups or bisque as an amuse bouche.

Vintage find # 3 Turkish yogurt cups used as cocktail shakers. Add julep strainer and your martinis are ready.
